France began the Second World War with one of the most powerful militaries in the world, with vast reserves of manpower supported by tanks, artillery, and airpower. While their defeat at the hands of Germany came as a huge shock historically, this book arms you with everything you need to change history on the Bolt Action tabletop! Armies of France includes not only rules for the French army of 1939-40, with its vast array of units, but also for Free French and Vichy forces, allowing you to field the forces of France throughout the entire war!
In addition to the unit profiles and national special rules, Armies of France is packed with historical background details, and full-colour illustrations and photography, to inspire your hobby journey.
Special Figure: Alongside the book comes Marie-Pierre Kœnig, the special figure! Kœnig would become legendary for his command of the Free French defence at Bir Hakeim in 1942, where his brigade held off five enemy divisions for over two weeks. Our figure depicts him in the thick of the action, running between positions under fire, and makes for a fantastic Platoon or Company Commander in any French force.
French Foreign Legion Platoon
Shed blood for France with the French Foreign Legion platoon!
The Foreign Legion were some of the toughest (and certainly the best-known) infantry available to Free French commanders in the deserts of North Africa.
This box contains 30 infantry models, allowing you to build a huge variety of French Foreign Legion infantry units and weapons teams. On each sprue you’ll find bodies in an eclectic mixture of British-supplied uniform and French webbing, and an enormous selection of weaponry – MAS 36 rifles, FM 24/29 light machine guns, Boys anti-tank rifles, MAS 38 submachine guns, and more – alongside plenty of extra equipment, including a crate of bottles!
For heads, of course this kit comes fully stocked with the iconic kepi blanc, the symbol of a Legionnaire, but we’ve also included sun hats and Adrian helmets to give your forces more variety.

French Army Heavy Weapons platoon
Bring up the heavy weaponry!
Designed to fight attractional defensive battles and grand set-piece attacks, the French Army was well-supplied with heavy weapons, having learned the efficacy of mortars and machine guns in the trenches of the Great War.
This box contains everything you need to build a Heavy Weapons Platoon – up to six mortars, or two machine guns, or numerous combinations, plus a Platoon Commander. The Heavy Weapons sprue contains a venerable Hotchkiss M1914 medium machine gun, as well as a trio of mortars, with one 81mm Mle 27/31 medium mortar, and a brace of lighter weapons: a 60mm Mle 1935, and 50mm Mle 1937.

French Army 75mm Light Artillery
Bring up the ‘75’!
The venerable Canon de 75 modèle 1897, or ‘French 75’, had been the world’s first modern artillery piece upon its introduction, and still formed the backbone of French light field artillery units in World War II. Capable of rapid direct and indirect fire, it remained a perfectly serviceable weapon despite its age.
In games of Bolt Action the French 75 can be included in Artillery Platoons and is a Light Howitzer, meaning it can be towed by most vehicles.

- One gun frame that makes the French 75, with three different wheel variants to allow you to build different carriage options.
- One crew frame which makes four crew in early-war French uniforms. A variety of heads and arms, and a range of equipment are included, as well as shells and cartridge cases for decorating your bases. The crew frame includes enough to make the three man crew plus an extra soldier that can be used as a platoon commander, a spotter, or simply added to your infantry squads.

Hold The Line! – French Starter Army
The infamous Foreign Legion provided Free French forces in the North African campaign with a source of extremely tough, highly motivated, and disciplined troops, who had extensive experience campaigning in desert climes – perfect for the task at hand. The Legionnaires of the 13th Demi-Brigade exemplified this by their legendary action at Bir Hakeim in 1942, where some 3,700 men faced down five Axis divisions for two weeks.
This Starter Army allows you to field a fully legal French Foreign Legion force for Bolt Action: Third Edition – entirely in plastic! With 42 infantry forming a large Rifle Platoon, and fire support provided by the plentiful mortar teams and machine guns of the Heavy Weapons Platoon, you’ve got a core of die-hard infantrymen who excel at holding defensive positions or closing with the enemy. Although this is an all-infantry force, it boasts excellent firepower, which is further bolstered by a pair of light howitzers – iconic ‘French 75s’ – in the Artillery Platoon, making approaching these Legionnaires a dangerous proposition for the enemy.
Able to be built and customised to an incredible degree, or built and played straight out of the box, Hold the Line! is the perfect way to start a new Bolt Action force.
