Free Void Flotilla (FVF) is a miniatures wargame that allows you to take small fleets into uncharted space to battle for control of new worlds, transport cargo through alien solar systems or conduct pirate raids into the void.
The mechanics of movement are based around vectors, velocity and a ship’s mass; a ship can quietly drift in one direction or flip and burn its way out of trouble, whilst risking damage to itself and becoming an easier target.
Ships have five main types, each with their own purpose; from large cruisers with multiple broadsides to smaller frigates that can rapidly throw torpedoes into the void as well as six distinct factions or ship classes to control.
Ships fire gun salvos at one another, torpedoes hurtle through space, point defense turrets shoot them from the void before running dry. Escorts hug their mother ships before assaulting enemies or trying to extract objectives.
Planets can be orbited or used to slingshot your ships while asteroid fields can be safe havens against torpedoes or large cruisers. Gas clouds can cover your ships’ advance while comet storms and wrecks collide with your ships.
Some Miniatures can be 3D printed at home but all ships can be bought as part of a set complete with tokens, bases and stands. These miniatures require little to no assembly and in a single set you will have all the tokens you need.
The table you play upon can be as small as an A2/ANSI C sheet of paper and, though we encourage you to create a beautiful voidscape with Ping-Pong ball planets and little asteroids, you could simply draw on your terrain.
In the 3rd millennium, humanity has spread across our own solar system, forming powerful new nations around moons and asteroids. Now we have discovered a way to fold to other systems ripe for exploration and settlement.
Chose between three distinct roles for your flotilla with their own unique scenarios. Are you a proud Authority flotilla with well trained and supplied ships, are you a desperate trader with a freighter or a hardened Pirate band?
You can choose any combination of ship types to include in your flotilla and outfit them with modifications, upgrades and devices using a points system; meaning that every flotilla can be unique and special with surprising tactics.
There are currently six different factions or ship classes (with more on their way), each use the same basic rules but expand on them with their own faction specific tactics and technology that open new avenues of strategy.
