Bushido

Bushido is set in a fantasy version of old Japan, where players control small forces of unique characters to complete objectives on a battlefield while engaging in tactical combat. The game features a unique dice allocation system for melee, requiring strategic decisions to outwit opponents, and relies on a combination of character abilities, special Chi points, and card play to achieve victory in its blood-soaked, honor-driven world.

Game Overview
  • Fantasy Japan Setting:
The game is set in a world inspired by Feudal Japan, blended with fantasy elements like ghosts, dragons, and mythical creatures such as Oni and Tengu.

  • Miniatures Skirmish:
Players command a small number of 32mm metal miniatures, representing their individual heroes.

  • Scenario-Based Objectives:
Victory isn’t solely determined by defeating the enemy; players must also complete specific objectives outlined by the game’s scenario.
    Core Gameplay Mechanics
    • Combat Dice Allocation:
A unique mechanic involves secretly allocating dice to either attack or defense from a shared pool during melee combat, creating a game of mind games and strategic choices.

    • Character Cards & Chi:
Each character has a card detailing their stats, such as movement, melee/ranged dice, and Chi points. Chi points are a vital resource for performing special actions (Feats) and for certain tests.

    • Strategic Card Play:
Players can play technique cards from their hand to enhance their attacks or defenses, and can choose to sacrifice dice or Chi to perform special moves.

    • Guard Mechanics:
Players select a guard (high, middle, or low) which adds specific dice to their pool and can affect weapon abilities, adding another layer of tactical depth to combat.
      Thematic Elements & World
      • The Way of the Warrior:
The game’s name refers to Bushido, the code of the warrior that emphasizes values like sincerity, honor, loyalty, and the mastery of martial arts.

      • Cosmic Balance:
The underlying theme involves protecting or disrupting the cosmic balance of Ki, a universal life force that powers both the universe and superhuman abilities.

      • Faction Diversity:
The world features diverse factions like the mobile Tangu, the direct-combat-focused Bearclan, and other unique groups.
