General d’Armee 2

General d’Armee 2 is a Napoleonic wargaming rule set for divisional- and corps-level battles, designed for larger tabletop conflicts than smaller brigade-level games. It uses a dynamic, fast-paced command and control system, with the battalion as the smallest maneuver element and the brigade as the lowest tactical command. Key features include a revised five-phase turn structure, revised rules for charges and combat resolution, and a new deployment system that uses dice to reveal unit positions.

Game overview
  • Scale:
Divisional and corps-level actions, suiting games with several brigades per side.

  • Unit representation:
Each unit typically represents a battalion of infantry, a regiment of cavalry, or a battery of artillery.

  • Command and control:
Emphasizes the player’s role as a commanding general, using an ADC (Assistant Director of Combat) command and control system to influence the battle.

  • Troop grades:
Units are graded by ability into one of six troop grades: elite, veteran, grenadier, line, reserveist, and recruit.

  • Figure scale:
There are no fixed basing or figure scale requirements, with the rules supporting figures from 6mm to 28mm.

Key game mechanics
  • Turn structure:
A five-phase turn consists of command and initiative, charges, movement, fire, and combat.

  • Charge rules:
Revised for speed, the new rules limit each brigade to one charge per turn.

  • Combat resolution:
The combat phase is resolved in one or two rounds, and includes options for fighting withdrawal or standing and reinforcing.

  • Fire phase:
Skirmishers fire first, followed by artillery, then infantry volley fire.

  • Deployment:
A new system uses dice to determine the initial positions of brigades, with scouting attempts being necessary to reveal their locations.

  • Scenarios:
The rulebook includes two introductory scenarios and a scenario generator for fast setup games, in addition to information on creating historical scenarios.
