Rommel

Rommel is a grid-based, operational-level wargame for the Second World War focusing on command, control, and logistics. Designed for 2-3 hour games, players take the role of a general (Division/Corps level) commanding battalions and companies, suitable for any scale of miniatures (commonly 3mm-15mm) on a 6×4 table.

Key Mechanics and Rules Description:

  • Grid System: The game uses a, typically 10-inch, grid-based map where each square represents roughly 1 km squared    Units, limited to three per square, engage in combat with up to 12 turns simulating a day.
  • Operational Dice (Ops Dice): Players use a “Command Post” to manage limited Ops Dice, spending them to trigger actions like movement, combat, or purchasing special events/tactics.
  • Command & Control: The game features an “I go, you go” turn structure where managing the consumption and replenishment of Ops Dice is crucial, as the command post fills up, preventing immediate reuse of actions.
  • Combat and Tactics: Combat is determined by comparing total combat values of engaged units and rolling a six-sided die, with results calculated using a chart. Tactics cards/rules allow for situational bonuses.
  • Scale and Scope: The game includes army lists for major powers and covers WWII in three periods (Early, Mid, Late War), allowing for both historical scenarios and army building.

Game Components and Formats:
  • Units: Represents battalions or companies, which can be represented by miniature bases or provided unit cards.
  • Army Lists: Provides 13 army lists, covering major powers for different periods.
  • Optional Rules: Covers amphibious/airborne operations, engineers, and supply mechanics.

The game offers a fast-playing, strategic experience, focusing on the higher-level decisions of a commander rather than detailed tactical firefights.
