Last Mile is a solo survival miniatures skirmish game. It is a standalone, miniature-agnostic game packaged in a small booklet (“zine”) format. Players guide a single survivor across a dangerous, post-apocalyptic road in a desperate attempt to get home.
Core Gameplay Mechanics
Card-Driven Exploration: The game utilizes a standard 52-card deck of playing cards to procedurally generate your journey. Each card drawn represents one “mile” or one day of travel. The suit and value of the card correspond to specific encounter tables, defining the terrain, hazards, or enemies (like bandits, “Rotten” zombies, or aggressive crows) you must face.
Compact Play Space: Each mile takes place on a tight 12″ x 20″ or 12″ x 24″ gaming grid. Your survivor starts on the left edge and must successfully navigate, fight, or sneak their way to the right edge to complete the mile.
Scavenging and Survival: While crossing the map, you can spend actions to search points of interest like rusted car wrecks or abandoned campsites to find equipment, weapons, and lucky charms. You must manage limited resources, track your health, and survive combat encounters using simple dice mechanics.
Miniature Agnostic: The game is entirely miniature-agnostic. You can use any 28mm–32mm figures you already own—such as leftover post-apocalyptic models, modern soldiers, or zombies—paired with whatever scatter terrain you have available.
Game Modes
Standard Journey: A standard game consists of a 10-card deck representing a 10-mile trek home, designed to be played in roughly 90 minutes to two hours.
The Long Road: For a grueling campaign-style experience, players can choose to play through all 52 cards in the deck.
Hard Mode: For an unforgiving challenge, players can shuffle a Joker card into the deck. Drawing it results in the immediate, unavoidable death of your survivor.
