1490 Doom

1490 Doom is a grimdark medieval tabletop skirmish game. Set in a dying alternate 15th-century Europe, players lead small “Doom Companies” of three warriors fighting for resources and survival while escaping the “Creeping Death”—a relentless, toxic fog that swallows the earth below.

Setting and Lore

The Creeping Death: Starting in 1490, a mysterious, foul-smelling fog rises from the ground, suffocating life, destroying crops, and driving survivors upwards into the remnants of ancient fortresses and towers.
The Countdown: The world is destined to be completely consumed by 1494, creating a desperate, apocalyptic atmosphere where players must fight not only their rivals, but the rising fog itself.
The Eaters: Once human, these husks are driven by an unnatural, endless hunger and stalk the dark ruins, serving as a constant environmental threat.

Gameplay Mechanics

Vertical Combat: Played on a modular circular board, the game relies heavily on verticality. Players battle to secure the high ground (like towers or rooftops), forcing characters to use ladders, grappling hooks, and brute force to survive.
Tactical Positioning: Positioning is everything. Warriors can throw opponents off tall buildings or push them off ledges, which often results in fatal falling damage.
Doom Companies: Players build a roster of three distinct warriors from available archetypes (e.g., Scout, Fighter, Assassin, Warrior Priest, or Saboteur). Each class has impactful, MOBA-like abilities that require careful coordination.

Game Structure

Objective: Games usually last about 7 rounds. The primary goal is to scavenge for resources, hold strategic choke points, and climb as high as possible to escape the rising toxic smog.
Flexibility: The rules are designed to be fast-paced, brutal, and atmospheric. It supports solo, cooperative, and competitive play, with many players opting to kitbash or 3D print their own miniatures.
