Altar of Freedom

Altar of Freedom is a grand-tactical miniatures wargame system for simulating the large battles of the American Civil War, focusing on army-level command and control rather than individual unitsPlayers take on the roles of corps or army generals to coordinate their forces, with each miniature base representing an entire brigade. The system uses a turn-based, variable-duration turn clock driven by a unique initiative bidding system where players secretly bid points to activate their divisions. The game uses 6mm or 10mm figures, features flexible basing, and includes historical scenarios to resolve major battles in a single evening.

Key Features

  • Command and Control Emphasis:
Innovative mechanics, such as the initiative bidding system and variable Turn Clock, are central to the game, reflecting the importance of command.

  • Flexible Basing:
Players can use different scale miniatures (6mm or 10mm) and can use any size bases, as long as both players in a game use the same system.

  • Historical Scenarios:
The game includes numerous historical scenarios for famous American Civil War battles, allowing players to resolve large engagements in a single evening.

  • Innovative Turn System:
