Chain of Command 2

Chain of Command 2 is final edition of the Award winning WWII Platoon level rule set, the first edition of which won the Wargames Illustrated Best Set of Wargame Rules Award consistently over its thirteen year lifespan. The Second edition builds on the original to provide all the command challenges of the original but with a more dynamic structure, meaning that you are always in the heart of the action.

Chain of Command’s unique command and control system combines with the Patrol Phase to place players on the empty battlefield and allows them to make plausible command choices as they lead their force forward to, we hope victory.

At 114 pages, the rules include a scenario generation system and Army Lists for Britain, Germany, the United States and Soviet Union. from 1944 to 1945, allowing the gamer to select support depending on the scenario being played, so you can pit two well matched forces against each other for a fun and challenging gaming experience. The rules are designed to work with the existing Chain if Command supplements, campaigns and Handbooks.

  • Setting: World War II, platoon-level skirmishes.
  • Players: Commands a platoon of infantry, supported by a small number of vehicles, anti-tank guns, and other support units.

Key Mechanics
  • Command and Control:
A dynamic system where players use command points to activate their units, influenced by leadership and the overall “Chain of Command” status.

  • Patrol Phase:
Before the main game, players use the Patrol Phase to gather intelligence on the battlefield and establish “Jump-Off Points” from which to launch their main attacks.

  • Empty Battlefield:
Forces are not lined up at the start; instead, players must use patrols to discover the enemy’s location and deploy accordingly.

  • Dice Mechanics:
Uses D6 dice. New rules like the “Bullseye” rule allow for rolls of 6 to generate additional firepower dice, leading to potentially devastating results.
