Check Your 6: WWII Air Combat

Check Your 6! (CY6!) is a critically acclaimed, tactical tabletop miniature wargame focused on historical air combatThe fundamental premise of the game is to simulate the physics, positioning, and psychological tension of pilot dogfights.

Core Gameplay Mechanics
    • Simultaneous Movement (WEGO System): Players secretly plot their movement, speed changes, and altitude adjustments on a planning sheet. Once everyone finishes planning, all aircraft move simultaneously on a hex grid, forcing players to anticipate their opponent’s next move.
    • 3D Flight Physics: The game utilizes a robust altitude system. Maneuvers (like tight turns, climbs, and dives) are entirely dictated by the aircraft’s current speed and performance stats.
    • Pilot Skill Over Machine: True to real-world aerial combat, pilot quality heavily influences the game. Pilots are ranked from Green (+0) to Ace (+3). Highly skilled pilots move later in the initiative order, allowing them to react to and “out-guess” less experienced pilots.

Versions and Formats
  • The Tabletop Game: Played using physical aircraft miniatures (ranging from 1/72 to 1/600 scale) or cardboard counters on a large hex map. The core game spans the 1925–1947 era (World War II and early jets), though spin-offs like CY6! Jet Age cover modern missile combat and Colourful Skies covers WWI.
  • The Digital Game: Developed by The Lordz Games Studio and published on platforms like Steam and Slitherine, the PC adaptation focuses heavily on the iconic Battle of Britain. It features 18 historical missions, 14 playable aircraft (such as the Spitfire and Bf 109), and support for single-player campaign or multiplayer hotseat/online modes.
