Great War: The World War One Miniatures Game is a standalone historical tabletop wargame. Built upon the core rules mechanics of Flames of War and WWIII: Team Yankee, the game focuses heavily on the deadly, high-stakes manoeuvre warfare of 1918 on the Western Front rather than static, early-war trench stalemates.
Core Gameplay & Scale
Scale: The game utilizes 15mm (1:100 scale) miniatures.
Table Size: Matches are played on a smaller, condensed 3’x4′ or 4’x4′ battlefield, putting players in immediate, high-intensity conflict.
Focus: Infantry companies form the core of the armies, uniquely supported by the debut of massive, archaic war machines and early mechanized armor.
Rulebook Content: The standard hardcover rulebook includes historical information regarding late-war operations like the Battle of Villers-Bretonneux, the Battle of Soissons, and the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, alongside specific 1918 mission rules.
Playable Factions & Forces
The system allows players to field specific national company formations tailored to 1918 tactical doctrines:
Germany: Can field specialized Stosstruppen (shock troops), Infanterie, Jäger, or defensive Siegfriedstellung companies, heavily backed by MG nests and rare A7V panzers.
Great Britain: Commands Line or Elite Rifle companies, ANZAC or Canadian forces, and Cavalry Squadrons supported by iconic Mark IV, Mark V, and Whippet tanks.
France: Features Metropolitan Compagnie de Fusiliers, Colonial Tirailleurs, and cavalry, driving back forces with Schneider CA. 1, Char Saint Chamond, and nimble Renault FT-17 tanks.
United States: Deploys veteran or Marine Rifle companies utilizing a mix of their own FT-17s alongside lent British and French armor assets.
Belgium: Fields a Compagnie de Infanterie relying on entrenched artillery and reinforcement support from British and French allies.
