Kobolds & Cobblestones

Kobolds & Cobblestones is a fast-paced, card-driven skirmish wargame that pits fantasy gangs against each other in Ordinsport’s criminal underworld, following the death of a crime boss. Instead of dice, players use playing cards for combat and movement, with card colors influencing racial abilities and triggers for critical hits. Players build unique gangs of thugs and criminals from various races, using point-based systems, to vie for control of the city’s underbelly.

Kobolds and Cobblestones uses several unique gameplay elements centered around a standard deck of playing cards:

Card-based resolution: Combat and other actions are resolved by playing cards and forming “poker hands,” with different combinations yielding special results.
No rulers: Movement distances are measured using the length and width of a playing card, simplifying the process and removing the need for measuring sticks.
Tactical card play: Just like in poker, players can bluff during combat to bait an opponent into using a strong hand. Strategic card management is key to winning encounters.
Bribery and money: The money gangs earn can be used both between games to recruit new fighters and during games to bribe opponents or encourage your own fighters.
Campaign play: The game emphasizes building a gang over a series of games. As your gang competes in different scenarios, its fighters will grow stronger (or suffer losses).
Character customization: Players can create diverse gangs by mixing and matching different races and character types, such as “runts” and “experts,” to exploit tactical synergies.
