On The Seven Seas

On the Seven Seas is a set of wargames rules covering the high adventure and low morals of the world of the pirate. The rules cover licensed privateers such as da Gama and Drake, ruthless pirates of the Spanish Main, Blackbeard, the Barbary corsairs, the wako of the Far East, not to mention the anti-pirate squadrons, Spanish garrisons and native warriors from around the world that found themselves at odd with generations of sea-borne reavers. The focus of the game is on boarding actions and the exploits of pirate crews on land, and the rules offer a quick-to-learn basic game based around individual characters and small units of rank-and-file.

  • Theme:

The game covers the world of piracy, including famous historical figures and regions like the Caribbean and the Far East.

  • Gameplay:

Players control small forces of pirates or naval units, managing their crews and ships through a turn-based system.

  • Fear and Greed:

    These are central game mechanics:

    • Fear: Managed through a morale phase, fear levels are influenced by casualties, the loss of a captain, and intimidation attempts. High fear can lead to a unit being unable to move or shoot, or forced to retreat.
    • Greed: Players also manage the greed of their crews, which is linked to the promise of loot and wealth.
  • Miniatures-Agnostic:

The ruleset is designed to be used with any figures from your preferred manufacturer, allowing for a personalized gaming experience.

  • Scalable:

The basic rules are for quick-to-learn, small-scale games but can be easily expanded for larger engagements.

What to Expect

  • Dueling: The rules support ship-to-ship combat leading to boarding actions.
  • Land Skirmishes: Players can also engage in smaller-scale conflicts on islands or in port environments.
  • Strategic Depth: Cunning captains must balance the psychological pressures of their crews with the allure of treasure, creating a dynamic and engaging play experience.
