Pulp Alley – 2nd Edition

Pulp Alley is a miniature-agnostic tabletop skirmish game that simulates fast-paced, cinematic adventures from pulp magazines and movie serials. Players create and lead teams, or “leagues,” of characters to complete plot-driven scenarios, focusing on narrative and action rather than historical accuracy. The system is flexible, allowing for diverse settings from classic 1920s-40s pulp to fantasy, sci-fi, or horror, and is designed to be accessible and easy to learn, with characters becoming more skilled through campaigns.

  • Gameplay and mechanics:
    • Miniature-agnostic: Players can use their own figures from any period or genre.
    • Character-driven: Focuses on unique characters with customizable abilities and gear, rather than equipment.
    • Dice system: Uses a descending dice system with opposed dice pools, where success is a roll of 4+ on a die, and the target number never changes.
    • Plot-driven scenarios: Scenarios are built around specific plots with unexpected perils and challenges, driven by a unique “Fortune Deck” of cards that provides objectives and opportunities.
    • Cinematic action: Emphasizes fast-paced, simultaneous action, initiative based on events, and character involvement in every turn.
