Rogue Planet

Rogue Planet is a fast-paced, “true” science-fantasy tabletop skirmish wargame that prioritizes cinematic action, narrative, and tactical depth over traditional, rigid rules. Known for its unique, measureless, and low-bookkeeping mechanics, the game is designed to be highly flexible, allowing players to use any miniatures from their collection to fight on a “derelict world”.

Key Features and Mechanics

No Measuring: The game eschews rulers, tape measures, and movement sticks. Instead, it relies on the relative position of models, line-of-sight (LOS), and terrain, which directly affects gameplay.
The FX Physics Engine™: This system powers interactions with the environment, allowing for cinematic actions like throwing enemies, breaking through terrain, and creating chaotic, interactive battlefields.
ROGUE Die System: An innovative mechanic that allows players to perform reactions (like dodging, returning fire, or casting spells) during their opponent’s turn.
PAWN System: Rather than complex, individual hit-point tracking, leaders have “Pawns” (followers/retinue) that can be sacrificed to soak up damage or to boost abilities, representing a dynamic, changing battle.
ENERGY Expenditure: A resource management system that allows players to buy off damage or enhance actions.
“True” Sci-Fantasy: The game allows for a blend of high-tech and magic, featuring psionics, sorcery, power armor, and futuristic weaponry.

Gameplay Experience

Low Model Count: The game is suited for small-scale skirmishes, often with only a handful of miniatures per side.
High Interactivity: With the ability to react during the opponent’s turn, players are constantly involved, avoiding the “I-GO-UGO” fatigue of traditional wargames.
Customization: The game includes a robust points-based system for creating custom units, weapons, and enhancements.
Flexible Scaling: It features multiple levels of play, from small “Patrols” to larger “Extended Ops” campaigns.

The game is often described as a “hidden gem” or a “cult hit,” offering a refreshing, high-tactical experience that feels more like a fast-moving narrative game than a rigid simulation. It is often praised for being a great “beer and pretzels” game that still offers deep, meaningful decision-making.
