Sludge

Sludge is wargame that blends black powder warfare with grimdark fantasy. It is a “miniature agnostic” game designed for players to use, convert, and kitbash existing historical miniatures to fit into a bleak, ahistorical, and decaying world.

Key Features and Description:

Setting: A “doomed” world of endless war, where dark magic and fungal horrors have taken root in a landscape of mud and trenchworks. It is often described as a mix of Pike & Shotte, medieval fantasy, and “John Blanche” style grim-darkness.
Gameplay Style: Brutal, fast-paced, and highly tactical. It focuses on managing battlefield viscera, represented by “Gore Tokens” that can influence or disrupt units.
Army Composition: The backbone of a Sludge army consists of battle-hardened line infantry (often in multi-based units, e.g., 40mm bases), supported by heavy noble knights and strange, dark magicians.
Miniatures: The game is specifically designed for kitbashing. Players are encouraged to combine historical plastic kits with custom heads or accessories to create a unique, filthy, and dark force.
Rules & Mechanics: The rules are designed for 28mm miniatures, typically played on a 4’x4′ or 4’x6′ table using d10s and d6s. The game features phases for Initiative, Activation, and Nerve.
