Soldiers of Napoleon

Soldiers of Napoleon is a card-driven, miniature wargame that focuses on divisional-level battles (1805–1815). It features a unique, narrative-driven system where action cards dictate turn sequences, allowing for command friction, events, and a focus on tactical decision-making rather than just dice rolling. The game uses flexible basing and measurements in “paces,” suitable for standard tabletop sizes.
Key details:
  • Scale: Designed for battalions/regiments/brigades, capturing the feel of larger battles in a manageable space.
  • Mechanics: Cards are used for activation and special events. Players get action cards based on their brigade commanders, with 2–6 orders per card, allowing for flexible command.
  • Combat: Features three main formations (march column, attack column, line). Units take “disruption” in combat rather than just casualties; if disruption exceeds the number of bases, the unit is removed.
  • Units: Includes Infantry (with skirmishers), Cavalry (with charges), and Artillery.
  • Scope: Covers the major powers of the later coalition wars (1813–1815) with expansions for the Peninsula War.
  • Style: Known for fostering a narrative, “historical” feel with unpredictable events.
