Supersystem – 4th Edition

SuperSystem is a tabletop miniature wargame designed to simulate superhero and villain battles, heavily inspired by comic book adventures. It is a skirmish-level game, typically requiring 5-10 models per side (though battles can range from 2 to 30), and is designed for 2 or more players. The game, currently in its 4th edition and focuses on fast-paced tactical combat using Action Points (AP).

Core Features and Mechanics

  • System: The game uses a d6 “success” system where players roll a number of dice based on character attributes (Strength, Agility, Mind, Resolve) and powers.
  • Gameplay: Players alternate activating one model at a time, spending Action Points on movement, attacks, or powers.
  • Combat: Attacks are usually opposed rolls (Attacker vs. Defender). Damage is determined by a second, separate opposed roll.
  • Figures: While designed to work with the 28mm “SuperFigs” line, it is commonly used with other superhero miniatures (like HeroClix).
  • Setting: The default setting is “Four-Color Earth,” a generic comic world that allows players to easily adapt existing DC, Marvel, or indie characters.
  • Campaigns: The game supports “Series” (campaigns), allowing characters to develop unique personalities, gain abilities, or suffer injuries over multiple sessions.
Key Aspects of Gameplay
  • Action Points (AP): A key mechanic where a model’s total AP is derived from their Attributes (usually Agility + Mind).
  • Henchmen vs. Characters: The game separates models into powerful “Characters” and weaker “Henchmen” (mooks or underlings).
  • Dynamic Combat: If a character’s health (Vitality) hits zero, they get a chance to make a “KO Check” to stay in the fight.
  • Flexibility: The rules encourage customization, with a “Most Important Rule” that suggests changing rules to fit the group’s needs.
