The Chase

The Chase is a cooperative, non-combat miniature wargame. Heavily inspired by classic disaster cinema like Twister, the game drops players into the dangerous roles of storm chasers tracking an unpredictable F5 tornado to gather vital scientific data.

Core Gameplay Mechanics

Instead of fighting monsters or opposing armies, players fight against Mother Nature. The core mechanics focus on risk management, positioning, and movement:
  • Objective: Collect a target number of data points before the tornado dissipates after 6 rounds.
  • Alternating Phases: Each time a player activates a storm chaser, the tornado immediately takes a turn, moving randomly and throwing deadly debris.
  • Action Points: Chasers spend points to move across the board, focus for bonuses, or position vehicles.
  • The “Suck Zone”: Getting too close to the tornado rewards you with data but risks getting your character or vehicle swept away in the vortex.
Because it is an open-ended indie miniatures game, players can 3D print or substitute their own models. A standard setup requires:
  • Four storm chaser miniatures.
  • An optional diecast or printed chase vehicle.
  • A custom-made tornado model built on a 5-inch base.
  • Scatter terrain representing rural towns or mobile home parks.
