Tribal – Second Edition

Tribal is pre-gunpowder, card-driven skirmish wargame focused on honor-based combat, where 20-30 warrior figures per side, including heroes and a warlord, fight for supremacy. Using playing cards instead of dice for activations and combat, players aim to gain Honor Points through heroic actions, often playing as Zulu, Viking, Maori, or Aztec tribes.

Key Features and Mechanics

  • Card-Driven System: Movement and combat are determined by two standard decks of cards, allowing players to actively participate in the fight by playing cards, acting as a “game within a game”.
  • Honour System: Victory is primarily determined by accumulated “Honour,” which is earned, lost, or spent on “dirty tricks” to win combats.
  • Warband Composition: Players command 20-30 miniatures, usually organized into small squads of 5 or as individual, powerful characters.
  • Gameplay Pace: The rules are simple enough to be learned in under an hour.
  • Customization: The system is adaptable to various historical and fantasy settings, such as Vikings fighting Orcs.

Primeval –   The Prehistoric Supplement for Tribal.

PRIMEVAL goes back to the era of the Dawn of Man, when humanity was first establishing itself across the harsh landscapes of a prehistoric world. Humanity’s fight for survival and ultimately supremacy provides a world of interesting gaming opportunities!

In PRIMEVAL there are: new skills (including rules for dog companions); 4 new prehistoric factions (Neanderthal, Cro-Magnon, Hominids and Denisovans); 4 new scenarios; a mini-campaign called ‘The Hunt’; and rules for playing animals in scenarios.

Moritur Te Salutant – Gladiatorial Arena Expansion

Tribal includes rules suggestions for playing games in the gladiatorial arena. Moritur te Salutant is a small Tribal supplement which provides a few rules alternatives and additions that add a more gladiatorial flavour to your games. They include an alternative system of dealing with armour (adding to red card values) and ways to keep your gladiators fighting for longer, but possibly risking the financial reputation of their ludus as more is gambled on them when the stakes are high.

Brutal: Close Up and Personal Combat

BRUTAL examines the politically charged conflicts between Gangs of New York’s Five Points;
Mob-violence as a political tool by agitators in Late Republican Rome;
the carefully managed clashes between neighbourhood gangs in Renaissance Italian cities;
Turf-wars between gangs in the Industrialising cities of Great Britain, Paris and Australia;
post-apocalyptic dustups in the Wastelands;
and even two-fisted action from masked superhero/vigilantes!

There are also NEW rules for:

  • SOLO-play;
  • bringing along guns to a knifefight;
  • interventions from the police/citizen-militia;
  • and units of black powder musketry.
