Verrotwood

Verrotwood is a miniature-agnostic folk horror tabletop skirmish game. Set in a blighted, ancient forest, players control small cults (usually 4 models) engaging in narrative, high-stakes battles using a d10 dice pool system to win favor for their gods. The game is known for its dark tone, DIY (kitbashing) focus, and campaign mode.

The skies over the Verrotwood have turned a sickly grey. The hopes of men have withered as fast as the crops. Desperate for salvation the people have begun to turn to the long forgotten and unspeakable things that rest in slumber somewhere deep in the forest.

A simple but versatile cult customization system allows you to pick from a large list of unique rituals to cast upon your enemies. As you play through the competitive campaigns, your cult will gain power and grow stronger with an easy to follow leveling system. In-between games your cult will explore all of the horrifying things that the Verrotwood have to offer in a random event system.

Pagan cults clash in the name of their gods. They do awful things to gain their favor, in the hope that they can awaken their gods.

Key Aspects of Verrotwood:

  • Setting & Tone: A “post-apocalyptic” folk horror world filled with twisted rituals, pagan cults, and AI-controlled creatures like ghosts and giant spiders. The atmosphere is meant to be grim and unsettling, focusing on dark, narrative-driven gameplay.
  • Gameplay Mechanics:
    • Low Model Count: Each player controls a small, tight-knit warband of roughly four models, making every decision crucial.
    • Dice Pool System: Uses a d10 (ten-sided) dice pool system where players gather dice based on stats and situation, and only the highest single result matters.
    • Random Activation: Models activate in a random order, simulating the chaos of battle.
    • Rituals & Campaigns: Cults can perform unique rituals, and a robust campaign system allows them to grow in power between matches.
  • Miniature Agnostic & Creativity: Players are encouraged to use any miniatures they choose, often heavily modified or kitbashed to fit the horror theme.
