Zona Alfa

Zona Alfa is a set of simple, fast-play skirmish rules for scavenging, exploring, and surviving in a near-future, post-apocalyptic Eastern European setting. Players take on the role of bandits, mercenaries, and military units fighting over the blasted Exclusion Zone and its abandoned artefacts. Customise your fighters with a variety of weapons and specialisms to create your ideal warband. With extended rules for campaigns, character progression, terrain, and environmental hazards, Zona Alfa contains all the tools required to engage in blistering firefights within the Exclusion Zone.

  • Exclusion Zone:
The game is set in an Eastern European-inspired Exclusion Zone, a dangerous area closed off by the government after a strange event.

  • Inspiration:
The setting and gameplay are heavily inspired by the classic science fiction novel Roadside Picnic and the related video game series S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Metro 2033.

  • Goal:
Players act as “Stalkers,” exploring the Zone to find valuable artifacts and technology left behind by an extraterrestrial event, but must contend with environmental hazards, dangerous creatures, and rival groups.

Gameplay Mechanics

Action Economy:
Characters are assigned a number of “actions” or “khrabrost” (Russian for courage) based on their training level (Rookie, Hardened, Veteran), determining their activity in a turn.

  • Progression:
Campaigns allow for character progression, where fighters can gain experience, learn new skills, upgrade equipment, and improve stats.

  • Narrative Play:
The game is designed to be played narratively, with a focus on exploration, looting, and surviving the dangers of the Zone.

Key Features
  • Customization:
Players build their warband by selecting different types of fighters and equipping them with a wide variety of weapons and gear.

  • Factions:
While not having direct in-game effects, factions like the military, traders, independents, and cultists add to the thematic flavor of the Zone.

  • Environmental Hazards:
Rules for interacting with the dangerous environment and finding artifacts add depth to the gameplay.

  • Solo & Co-op Options:
Free updates are available for players who wish to play the game solo or in cooperation with others.
