Sword & Steel is a fast paced ancients to early renaissance skirmish game with optional fantasy elements. Games are typically 100 points, 1 – 3 hours long, and host 10 to 20 miniatures per side, although games of 40+ miniatures per side are possible and are rule supported.
Sword & Steel features alternate activation with variable elements, soldier level point based customization, and optional traits to allow the creation of veteran, skilled, and/or fantastical warriors. Fantasy elements are completely optional, and have been tested against non-fantasy forces. Play-testing showed that Mages are 100% less effective with arrows in their heads.
Sword & Steel also includes…
– Fortification System
– Destructible Terrain Rules
– Heavy Weapons
– 9 Scenarios
– 10 Optional use factions, each with 3 special rules
– 12 Premade soldier templates ranging from Levy to Lord, including minor and major monsters
– 3 Premade forces designed for standard 100 point games. The forces being the Local Levy, the Raiding Party / Lords Retinue, and the Knights Band
– Campaign rules for long term play and persistent forces. Campaigns include rules for Unrest, Scouting, Stealth, 5 types of settlement captures, recruitment, and more
Sword & Steel was born out of a challenge I gave myself, to write a short, 1 page, wargame. It was such a hit with my local group, that it was further developed in to this product. The game has been tested in two, three, and four player games, with a wide variety of force types and scenarios being used. The PDF has been printed on a conventional home printer.
